Feed Phobia

rss feed hose

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that I am the first to coin “ressaphobia” — the irrational fear of RSS feeds. Don’t get me wrong, I believe RSS feeds are the greatest thing since sliced bread! It’s just that I can’t bear to open my feed aggregator (Bloglines) in fear of the fire hose of posts I’ve yet to read. Because with each passing day the number of new posts on the blogs and podcasts I’ve elected to follow keeps growing, the dread I feel at facing those growing numbers increases respectively. It’s a vicious circle. I can’t keep up, so I don’t even glance at the good stuff I’m missing.

Shamefully, I’ve resorted to “manually” checking the few blogs maintained by my closest friends! What self-respecting blogger doesn’t actively follow other bloggers with rss? Maybe I’m not a real blogger…

Can I just say that this is a brilliant term? And that the picture is equally awesome (it took me a minute to see the detail there on the right)? I appreciate the post, man. Last month, I ended up unsubscribing from about 90% of the blogs I had simply because I couldn’t keep up (and wasn’t always getting good stuff from them anyhow). Even Shorpy – in part because I know where the site is and can always go there to catch up later.

Harrrrrr-dee-arrrrrrrr!!!! Take that, you fearsome feeds… Inspired and emboldened by your comment and acts of deletion, Steve, i just zapped ALL of my feeds! WOW! That was intensely refreshing! I shall now continue on old skool style by reading and commenting on stuff I come across in-the-moment and when I think to check :o )>>

You zapped moi? How could you? I thought we were friends. Sounds like by deleting your rss feeds you’ve redefined the meaning of rss to radically simple solution. Well done. Now, if only I could find some friends who won’t zap me.

Wow! I didn’t zap all of my feeds, wild man! After all, I want to stay on top of the Syndicate (and certain other blogs) – especially the comments threads.

If you do ever head back into Ressaville, I might suggest that it could be a good time to try out Google Reader as an alternative to Bloglines.

Hehehe… rest assured, dear ones, yours are blogs for which I need no feeds… especially yours, Cowgrrrl K… rarely a day goes by that I don’t pass thru StrongFightingSuriving just for a quick dose of show-me-how-it’s-done kinda pick-me-up like, what!
